Wednesday Evening Open 2024-2025
Speaking of Clothing, as a person new to curling, below are some suggestions for “Getting Started” curling gear:
- a standard length microfiber jacket is perfect; try not to wear anything too puffy, bulky or long. You will need a jacket that allows you to move freely.
- long sleeve shirt over a t-shirt or undershirt (remember it will get cold out there)
- for pants, we recommend pants that have a LOT of stretch. Athletic pants, curling pants etc. Not recommended Jeans or fleece pants (fleece sticks to the ice)
- as the temperatures drop, you may want to add long underwear under your pants
- Gloves to keep your hands warm but flexible enough to allow you to grip and hold a curling broom and be able to manage the curling rock; at this time, we don’t recommend mittens.
- We encourage you to wear head protection. Anything that is ice certified is appropriate: Hockey helmet, ski helmet, skateboard helmet, something that protects the back of your head. You will see curlers wearing head protection that provide a foam halo around your head. These may not be CSA certified.
- Feet: this is important:
- Warm socks are a must.
- For now we encourage you to wear CLEAN sneakers. DO NOT WEAR them to the club. Change into them when you arrive at the club.
As you progress to your next stages of your curling fun, you may want to purchase or ask for gifts (we say for Christmas in the fall!), the following:
- Curling shoes
- Grippers
- Curling gloves
- Curling pants
- Curling broom
- Curling stabilizer
If you have any of the above, bring it with you to use, it will improve your experience!
